What City Limits?

Looks like Austin City Limits has definitely left the area. Here's the lineup for Season 31 now in progress and it's a really great lineup for an excellent music program, but I only see one Austin Act on the list of new broadcasts: Spoon. I suppose you could count Sheryl Crow who is here for Lance (and not exactly working her butt off in the club scene)... but anyway... I'm just sayin'...
Michael McDonald followed by Joss Stone, Elvis Costello, Coldplay, Blues Traveler followed by Café Tacuba, Ryan Adams followed by Tift Merritt, Widespread Panic, Gretchen Wilson followed by Miranda Lambert, Death Cab for Cutie followed by My Morning Jacket, John Fogerty, Sheryl Crow, Wilco followed by Bright Eyes, Modest Mouse followed by Guided By Voices, The Flaming Lips followed by The Shins, Trey Anastasio, Jack Johnson followed by Rilo Kiley, Alison Krauss and Union Station followed by Kathleen Edwards, Etta James, Ben Folds followed by Ray LaMontagne, The Killers followed by Spoon, John Prine followed by Amos Lee, Franz Ferdinand followed by What Made Milwaukee Famous

I think it's a little sad.

This bothers me as well.

Is this the all time low number of Austinites on the schedule, or what?..

I actually said to a visiting friend as I showed him the EJ DVD, "This is from when Austin artists used to be featured on Austin City Limits."

Here's the list of archived performers. I believe it's been a marketing trend on their part to gradually move away from the Austin and other Texas artists, away from twang and the singer/songwriter, and move toward being featuring more international acts and edgy pop. It's fine, they don't want to get stale and boring to the greatest number of viewers. I guess it's better for them to thrive than die but I just want the locals to get more exposure. I guess we are going to have to rely on ME Television for that now.

And no... you can't see it. It's a local broadcast with local acts. [sigh]

I looked through the list on the link I just posted. Sheryl Crow is from last season (so one less Texan!). So yes... I would say it's a record low number.

Grrr. I need to correct myself again! What Made Milwaukee Famous is an Austin band.
