Winter beauty

The yard is so full of butterflies!! Mostly Monarchs Queens* but there are a few others I haven't identified by type. It has been very, very dry so there is not a lot for nourishment, so they are ganging up on the Tropical Milkweed. So beautiful.

* [correction] These butterflies pictures are Queens, which I discovered through a comment with this link.

They truly are beautiful but I can't believe they're still hanging out with you all.

Yes, it's still warm here, has been in the 80s. We ran the A/C last night and today. It is supposed to chill down tomorrow, but that won't last long.

Lots of eggs there on the plant stems, hoping for the best when it comes to increasing the butterfly population.

Pretty darn magical.

Bees and butterflies were all over my Austin garden today too. A few years ago nature/garden blogger Meredith Great Stems had a post on how to tell Monarchs and their cousins the Queen butterflies apart. I'm pretty sure the butterflies in your photo are Queens - what do you think?
Keeping my fingers crossed they'll all find hiding places to make it through the next couple of nights.

Very interesting! I am going to examine these further (and pass along to MrB, butterfly gardener) and go through the rest of my shots too. Thanks for the link.

Wow, it looks like these ARE Queens and not Monarchs. I have seen some Monarchs though, but mostly these.
