Historic and incredible

Narcissistic Personality Disorder
The symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder revolve around a pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and sense of entitlement. Often individuals feel overly important and will exaggerate achievements and will accept, and often demand, praise and admiration despite worthy achievements. They may be overwhelmed with fantasies involving unlimited success, power, love, or beauty and feel that they can only be understood by others who are, like them, superior in some aspect of life.

There is a sense of entitlement, of being more deserving than others based solely on their superiority. These symptoms, however, are a result of an underlying sense of inferiority and are often seen as overcompensation. Because of this, they are often envious and even angry of others who have more, receive more respect or attention, or otherwise steal away the spotlight.

There were 2 speeches last night, both by people are presuming to be the Democratic nominee, and both soldiering on either because of or in spite of the numbers. Here's Obama's nominee speech:

It's easy to be gracious when you're the winner.

I think everyone really needs to put all the bashing of these two people aside. Clinton supporters have to stop hating Obama because he's won and they felt entitled. Obama supporters have to stop hating Clinton because she's dragged this out. Democrats should be happy that they've been able to field two candidates that so many people respect. The Republicans are left with, well, John McCain. And they had such a weak field that he wrapped it up years ago. It's plain that some people just hate Clinton and some hate Obama. Get over it. If we truly believe that either are better than another Republican administration then we should be behind either of them. And I completely disagree that what Hillary has done has weakened the party. If people are going to jump ship because she's not the nominee, then obviously they have no conviction in their ideology.

I like the tie-in with narcissistic personality disorder. As a former shrink, I think all the candidates qualify. What gives any of these people the sense that they deserve to be the leader of the most powerful nation on the planet? What about training as an attorney qualifies any of them to do the job? Certainly none of them has held the job before and while they are now all national figures, they have widely varying experience in public service, foreign policy, and leadership on the scale of president of the U.S. To presume that you legitimately believe yourself to be the best qualified person to be the most powerful leader in the world almost demands a level of narcissism that many of us don't possess. Of course, if we like the person, we call it "confidence." If we don't like them, we call it "ego" or "vanity."

Hopefully Hillary takes a couple days and cashes it in and we can all get on with bashing McCain and stop the immature silliness of the Democratic primaries.

drdon is absolutely right on the money again. If the Democrats do not set aside their vitriolic attacks on each other, then we're all going to be left with John McCain. McCain's speech last night went right at Obama - it was classic "high authoritarian" in tone, patronizing, belittling, and while sounding calm on the surface, had that undertone of fearmongering that neo-cons love to use.

Yes, Obama's nomination is historical. I'm sitting here in my Obama '08 hoodie, recongnizing the monumental achievement. Had Clinton become the nominee, it would have been equally historical. Both of these candidates achieved something that was hithertoo unheard of in a white, male political world.

There were things Clinton said last night that were absolutely brilliant - and frankly, either of these Democrats would be a far sight better than John McCain!

At one point in Obama's speech last night, I saw an opening for Clinton in a Cabinet position.

But drdon said abolutely everything I believe, so all I can add is "ditto."

Health and Human Services (HHS) would be an excellent Cabinet position for Hillary. Let her run with her health care plan, etc.

Drdon (with a capital D!!) You are saying some things that really need to be said. There has been truth in some of the criticism on both sides - but now is the time to come together and support a philosophy that will take this country back. I cringe at the negativity that people don't seem to want to let go of. The only damage to the Democratic Party will come from those who can't move on. This battle has been hard on all of us (no matter who you supported) but we are stronger for it - not weaker. That's my opinion and I am sticking with it!
