Catblogging - Jax, love can be heavy

Here's my pretty boy, Jax. He has become quite the lap cat lately! We never thought he would do this. We rescued him about 4 years ago and he was never the type to stay on your lap more than a nanosecond. But recently he really camps out there. Trouble is, he's big. Big-boned and pear-shaped -- weighs nearly 20 pounds. We've got him on a diet but he's not crazy about it, and who would be?

Here he is on my husband's "lap" below. Jax takes over the area no matter what. It's also not always wise to try and move him.

He looks like a cuddly sack of love!

20 pounds would get heavy after awhile though.

BadTux catblogged about his "Big-Boned" Black cat Fang, who has trouble find a lap big enough to suit his needs.

Heh. Another thing that my big black kitty Fang does is, if I roll over on my back while in bed, he comes over and camps out on my chest (well, actually hind legs somewhere below my waist, front paws kneeding away happily near my neck as he purrs purrs purrs and gazes soulfully at my face). Needless to say almost 20 pounds of big black furry kitty jumping onto your chest is enough to startle a guy awake, not to mention the sight of needle-sharp claws working in and out suspiciously near the jugular being a somewhat frightening sight to wake to. Funny, I've mostly been sleeping on my side lately, I wonder why?!

Seeing Jax always reminds me of the big black we had when I was little; Puffer kitty. She was a roamer, and definitely one of the toughest cats on the block, but always good with little kids, despite her ferocity with other cats and some dogs.

Jax lived for 7 years as a street (alley) cat so he is tough, but only when he needs to be, and he longer needs to be. He is now a pampered indoor kitty and loving it.
