Scottbert turns 50

Happy 50th birthday today to Scott Adams: a cat-loving vegetarian atheist Mensan (WOW! Who does that remind me of?) and the creator of Dilbert. I love his blog, check it out if you haven't already done so. I certainly relate to that cartoon too. I am really happy for all you folks who truly believe that life begins at 40, or 50, or 60, or what-have you -- but that has not been my experience. If I could freeze my age it would be at 30... OK... 29. When you are well into middle-age your body starts falling apart, also it doesn't look as good as it used to, either (unless you're like... wealthy and have good genes and a good plastic surgeon and personal trainer). The best thing about being in my 50s is that I'm not dead yet. Ain't no flies on me. Shoo flies!!!

EDIT: Scott has a post up about being 50 here. My own experience differs -- except for the cat-petting part. I've had a love/hate relationship with diet and exercise, and at 53 I'm in the "hate" part of it. I have reasons.

I'm a daily reader of Scott's "Dilbert" blog.

I'm 46 and a half (how come we give up saying that when we were younger). I'm really in the best shape of my life.

Well, except for the hair balding on top and growing in new places, and the anemia, and the sore tendons from time, and the callouses on the feet, and the small print I can't read anymore, and the intolerance of noise, and bright sunshine.

Yeah, Except for those things, I've never felt better.

I think I need to go home sick today, I'm not feeling very well anymore.

Nick! You're only 46 (and a half)! A mere baby! Just wait 'til you turn 50! ;-)

I got ya all beat! One of the best things about being long past 50 is that one becomes much more discriminating about what bothers them. I'm frequently saying, "Ah, that's no big deal."

Thanks for sharing this news. Dilbert is a classic. Even my son can appreciate his take on the moronic side of office life, and he hasn't had his first job yet.

This morning, I woke up, and my back really was kind of aching all over. I attributed this to the fact that the kids and I took a dip last evening in an almost too-cool pool. More than one person, including my boss, told me it was about gettin' old. But, I'm only going on 42, a year I'm looking forward to. I think.

Shoo flies indeed.

Love Dilbert! Scott captures life's absurdities like no one else.

Oh, and the best part of being 55 is not having to worry about the "filter" so much. Now people just say, "She's old, you know."

Ha!

People (excluding cops) generally guess me at 5 years younger than I am. At least I'm lucky in that regard.

I ran again this morning. First time since last Sunday. lol! There's another 41 yo blogger I read who's not gung-ho but definitely into fitness as he's also a basketball coach, so reading his post, well... I read it and got changed and ran.

Now if I can just find something inside myself to flip that switch, I might actually feel younger than I look instead of older than I am! Truth is, though, I NEED external motivations; specifically from another person (preferably cute, smart and female.) Internally I'm just too laid back for my own good.
