Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I favor ellie myself. It's amazing how many of those dogs are missing teeth. My sisters Chiauau was a rescue and it didn't have any front teeth. So it's tongue just hangs out the side all the time.

Well, it is kind of ugly. I hate to say it. :)

My grandmother once entered her dog and won an ugly dog contest. We joked about it but actually the dog was rescued from where it was abused and left hanging on a leash from a branch-left to die-before she took it. Poor thing had vocal chord damage, no teeth, missing hair. UGLY. But not by nature. By cruelty.

My grandmother treated that dog like a baby after all it went through. Poor thing. We made a lot of jokes about it, but it was loved at last.

Can you believe waking up in the morning to find that dog staring you in the face?

The prize money was $1000, so that probably makes the dog look cuter.

I really hope that people aren't specifically breeding their dogs to be ugly (although ugly doesn't make them unlovable) but I suspect they are doing that. I really wish humans would stop messing with other species genetically, especially for cosmetic reasons. :::pet peeve:::

Wow... I love dogs, but yup, this guy's kinda spooky. Even his tongue is weird. Elwood is also close.

Interesting, all the photos portray the doggies with their tongues sticking out. Is it supposed to add to the ugliness factor?

A somewhat mean competition, IMHO.

Wow I never thought that people would do that but they do for show dogs...so why not? If there is money to be made there is some jerk out there willing to try. Animals be damned, in their view.

I can't help but believe that this is the result of over and cross breeding. Poor little thing.

I am generally not in favor of breeding cats and dogs. Many people make the argument that breeding cats and dogs does not affect in any way the number of animals that end up in shelters and are mostly killed because they are not adopted. I am not convinced by their arguments.

Besides, mutts and alley cats are best, aren't they? Who agrees? And saving the animals life is a very good way to start your relationship with a furry companion.
