Dear God, am I more appealing to You now?

RANT alert: Calling this barbaric would be too kind. It's a 4-day Muslim feast called Eid al-Adha, and over 1,400 people were injured slaughtering animals to commemorate Abraham slaughtering a ram instead of his son. I am sorry, but killing for religion is despicable. The whole idea of killing for sacrifice to a god or gods is absolutely uncivilized and unenlightened.

If your god requires you to offer up some murdered creature, whether human or animal, before he or she can stand to look upon your hideous and unworthy face, I'd say your god is the one who's unworthy... hell, you're both hideous and unworthy. That's what I think about being "washed in the blood".

Sick bastards.

I've always referred to Avraham slaughtering the ram as a Jewish-related tradition. I guess it's Muslim as well, as Esav is Avraham's grandson.
Still, interetsing that Muslim celebrate it so, Hmm, colorfully and enthusiastically.
We don't.

Ha, the things you do in the name of religion...

I'm pretty sure Pastafarians have less bloody ceremonies...

I am pretty much a Pastasfarian always, without eating the sacred meatballs though. I've got a great link over on the sidebar for the FSM collection of hate-mail.

I guess all the Judeo-Christians share the Old Testament. Then the Christians part ways with the others by using Jeebus for their sacrifice. I think it's one thing to appreciate the concept of sacrifice for greater good, and another to go on a killing rampage for the sake of spilling blood for religion (animals or even people for that matter, as happens in wars).

I should probably qualify my rant by saying that I was raised as a Christian, and have been both fundamentalist and evangelical through upbringing and free will. It is this concept of the killing sacrifice that first set me on the path toward reason and non-belief. As always, my opinions are just that... my opinions.

I was raised as a traditional-religious Jew, and religion and I parted as friends once I realized that one of the dangers of religion - any religion - is people misinterpreting and misusing it, to justify their deeds.

So far, the FSM requires no sacrifice.
I've only started to read the gospel, though, so I might be wrong...

The FSM (al dente be His name!) only requires the Sacrifice of the Noodle and the Cheese.*

Somewhere in this world, there is a poor schmuck named "Al Dente" (in the same club with those guys named Al Quaeda or something like that).

In the name of Parmesan, Ricotta, and the Holy Tofu Sprinkles, RAmen.

Between the two of you, I feel humbled by your vast knowledge of the gospel fundamentals.
I'd better go say my prayers now...

I like the close. Call em out! All of Abrahams children like to kill and fight for fun.

I was writing a blessing for the new congress. Wicka was the easiest non-violent faith to find inspiration for the post. I finaly found pieces of Christian blessings to include but much harder to get.
