World loses another Austin treasure

I've been meaning to post about Molly Ivins lately. I've been thinking of her a lot and checking her column for news or entries. It had been reported that she had been losing her battle with breast cancer, and today she is gone. All I can do now is to recommend that you read what this lady has written, read about who she was and what she was like. There was nobody else quite like her.

This is the last paragraph from her last column on January 11:
We are the people who run this country. We are the deciders. And every single day, every single one of us needs to step outside and take some action to help stop this war. Raise hell. Think of something to make the ridiculous look ridiculous. Make our troops know we're for them and trying to get them out of there. Hit the streets to protest Bush's proposed surge. If you can, go to the peace march in Washington on Jan. 27. We need people in the streets, banging pots and pans and demanding, "Stop it, now!"

I totally misted up when reading it this morning. I'm not sure I even knew she had the Cancer. It's really very sad and we've lost a truly Great Character in Journalism.

{sigh}

We knew about it here locally for awhile, I've known for maybe a year, it would be on the local news and such. Cancer, it gets better, then worse, then it gets you, and quickly. Seems like it's what gets most people. We are losing our fine political ladies here. We still have Lady Bird and Liz Carpenter, but they are getting up there.
